One of the most beautiful voices to ever come out of Canada... I saw her live in concert long before she made it big... in Lethbridge, Alberta, in her cowpunk days... an amazing voice whether live or recorded.... this is k.d. lang
One of my favourite interpretors of songs, singing one of Lenny's best. She does the best version, even better than the original in my humble opinion. And in my opinion, MY opinion is the Best opinion!!
Little k little d little l-a-n-g-Her name was just plain kd lang But her main claim to fame was how she sang with a twang And jumped around like a 'rangytang-lady k.d. lang k.d. lang, k.d. lang, she jumped around like a 'rangytang- lady k.d.lang.
She does have a great haunting melodious sound in her voice. Maybe after that concert, she could finally afford to buy shoes so she won't be barefoot on stage anymore.
No comment from me, because I can't hear the lady. Risking to become persona non grata here, isn't olde Lenny still tearing around? Jaja, romantic as a brick, i know.
My favourite kd lang song has always been "Miss Chatelaine", and the Roy Orbison duet. I also remember that she was the first "star" that I was aware of, who was/is gay!
I've been a big fan of K.D. Lang for a long, long time. My two favorite covers of Cohen's "Hallelujah" though, are by Bono and Jeff Buckley. Both are utterly unique and haunting.

ReplyDeleteMapstew: Well, on this subject, we are of the same opinion.... so we must be right!
ReplyDeleteShe is awesome, isn't she? I would love to see her live again... it was over 20 years ago that I saw her in concert.
I love the Cohen anyway, so when the great K.D. does His stuff, well it's like heaven doubled.
ReplyDeleteMapstew: Another voice that I love doing Cohen is Jennifer Warnes with "Famous Blue Raincoat". I love that album!
ReplyDeleteAye.. I must admit that Ms Lang has a good voice and a certain charisma.
ReplyDelete'Cowpunk' now that is a word that is new to my vocabulary.
she is absolutely the best ever! i have every single one of her cd's! xoxo

I loved the duet on 'Crying' she did with Roy Orbison. Makes me want to howl every time I hear it. Two beautiful voices together.

ReplyDeleteLove her voice, love this song. I just wish she had a stylist (or a better one). Yes, I know... that was shallow of me.
ReplyDeleteI have Famous Blue Raincoat on vinyl! And tape! One of the kids recently downloaded it to my iPod. Kids are great!

ReplyDeleteI so agree! She has my favourite female voice and her rendition of this song is amazing. I will listen again!
ReplyDeleteJimmy: It is a cool word, isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteSavannah: Me too!
MJ: Tom has a way with words, doesn't he?
MdF: That one is my fave too, but the video quality on youtube wasn't the greatest, so I chose this one instead.
Eros: Not the classiest dresser, is she? But who cares with a voice like that!
Anna: Yes, she is very unstylish... I guess she just expresses her individuality.
Mapstew: You need your kids to do that??? Get with the times, man... you can't be old enough to not know how to do that stuff.
Mago: Man, you have got to get speakers! You're missing out!
ReplyDeleteAndrea: Enjoy... she is definitely on my faves list, too!
The first time I recall seeing k.d. was her performance at the 1988 Calgary Olympics.

ReplyDeleteXL: I think it was 1985 when I saw her in Lethbridge.... it was a great concert! Small venue... very 'personal.'
ReplyDeleteHelga: When I saw her do 'Miss Chatelaine' live, it was a scream! She was very campy and theatrical doing that song.... very funny!

ReplyDeleteJonas: I haven't heard those renditions... will have to check them out.
ReplyDeleteNo, I CAN do it, but they have to earn their pocket money somehow!! They DO teach me a lot though. And not just techy stuff.
ReplyDeleteMapstew: An ulterior motive on your part... make them work to earn money but to teach you stuff too. Not a bad deal all round! ;-)
ReplyDeletefabulous - she can hit the spot :)
