Brief visit, and the kitten

I came home from work yesterday, and this lovely Monarch butterfly landed on the fence just outside the gate. It stayed just long enough for me to snap a photo.

I find it fascinating that these fragile creatures migrate thousands of kilometers/miles to Mexico to winter. They seem so erratic in their flight that I don't really grasp how they do that!

All the same, it is wonderful to see them in fairly large numbers up here in Canada every summer.

In kitten news, Aska has taken over the cat cave bed thingy, as she can now jump up on the furniture. She is growing! A very active kitty, she often ignores the food I put down for her, as she feels running and playing and chasing little mouse toys much more important than eating. *sigh* Between her ignoring her food, and Miss Pickypants (aka Pips) turning up her nose, feeding time is a challenge. But Aska is still a good weight, and continues to thrive, so it can't be a bad thing.

For your viewing pleasure, (or maybe not... you can ignore these if you so desire) here are some videos.

  1. It is truly amazing that the delicate butterflies can make those long migrations.

Great videos, especially the second one! When my RJ was Aska's age, he was much the same way; hardly stopping for mealtimes and not settling down for sleep until lights-out in the evening. So much energy.

    1. Aska does have naps during the day, thankfully. She is busy busy when she's awake, though!

  2. Butterflies are amazing and beautiful! I saw a nature program, Blue Planet, recently which showed that the Painted Ladies Butterflies have the longest migration of any animal--travelling from sub-Sahara jungles to the tip of Scandinavia in the summer, and returning to the African jungles in winter! Just spectacular and miraculous and astounding!

I love Aska's little house! The vid of her getting groomed by the older cat is wonderful! And what energy in the second vid! I hope she landed on her feet!

    1. That little cat cave was what I went to buy when I saw tiny little Frosti in the adoption kennels at Petsmart. HE was an impulse buy, and unfortunately turned out to be a not good match for Pips and Lila. So far, Aska seems to be good with them. I sure hope it stays that way as she matures!

    1. You fall off window sills! Best to just stand on the floor to look out the window, Scarlet. ;-)

So you have something to say about all this, do you?
Well, let's hear it, then!
