New philosophy

Pack up what I want/need to keep. Donate/bin the rest.

Makes life so much simpler!! Spending time first sorting and then packing is silly. It'll be messy for a bit, but then it will be done!

Moving commences next week. I have the keys to the new place already but don't take possession until Sunday, the 15th. Electrical and water meter readings that day. Cable, tv and internet transfer on the 18th.

The 19th is cat moving day. Girlfriend with truck (for almost 6' tall cat tree, which really doesn't fit in my 4' long [short?] car...) to help with that and other smaller stuff.

(I don't think so.)

Big stuff moving day is the 21st. The MoS is helping (yes, we have remained friends...) and because he is wickedly allergic to cats (that's also the reason the cats will get moved earlier and will be locked in a room with all their stuff on moving day), the couch and chair will be wrapped in plastic shipping wrap. It also helps to protect from scrunches, as they are pretty big and difficult to get in the elevator here. I am going to wrap a few other things with the plastic shipping wrap to prevent drawers from sliding out of things, etc. My sister and another friend will also be helping.

I plan on (hopefully) having all the kitchen stuff, books, breakables, clothes, bathroom crap, linens and towels, etc moved so all that will be moved on that final day will be furniture. There's enough of that to fill the 6'x12' trailer, I am sure!

Then it's cleanup time at the old place and settle in to the new. I will be very glad when this is all said and done. I have moved waaaaaaaayyy too many times in my life. *sigh*

  1. Good planning. Especially thinning out the collection.

PS: I really like the squirrel pix!

  2. I don't envy you moving, but the donate/dump stuff idea has got me thinkin'!

I left home at 21 and moved 14 times before getting married at 29! And we moved three times before we settled here 19 years ago! Guess it's time to unpack some of those boxes!

Good luck with the move, I hope it all goes smoothly. I'd come over and give ya a hand but I'm washing my hair! Maybe the other fella has a few free hours?! :¬)

  3. Best of luck. Turn the page. And I'm with Map...if I were in the neighborhood, I'd stop by and lend a hand. The two of us could handle the heavy stuff.

  4. Don't look at me. I hate moving.

The last time we moved, I paid a small fortune for a company to pack and move us. I am so glad I did. Apparently, I had 3x the amount of stuff they'd expect in a small 2, bed flat. Now we're in a house...well I hate to think.

Personally, I blame the books. There were 6 bookshelves of them. And now, well, the books are double shelved.

  6. I haven't moved in 23 years, but I did so many times growing up, I still have that "less is more" mentality to possessions. I love your philosophy of using this as an opportunity to clear your life. New beginnings! Good luck, take care of that shoulder. :-)

  7. Guess we'd all be helpful neighbors if we were in your neighborhood.

Here's wishing you a stress free move and a happy new home.

  8. You are very brave to move again so soon(comparisons - we have been here since '85).
I trust it all goes smoothly and that you will be happy

  10. Thanks, everyone! I took possession today and have the meter readings done (electricity and water). Cleaning will commence tomorrow after I have the summer tires mounted on my car (10:00 a.m. appointment). It won't take much, really, but I always like to go over a new place myself, no matter how clean it looks. They had two cats and I want to make sure it's a healthy place for my two fluffy felines.

And Map's Taller Pal? You're welcome to stop by anytime. I'd offer you a glass of the dark stuff, but I haven't stocked up yet. (Of course, that offer is always extended to Map as well!)

  13. Hello my darling!

How is it in the new rooms? Did the ghost of the house already appear? I'm sure some people here would love to hear how you are doing. Just make a sound, say "peep"!

So you have something to say about all this, do you?
Well, let's hear it, then!
